Today on 25 April 2023, the Commission published a list of 17 Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs) and 2 Very Large Online Search Engines (VLOSEs) based on their public amount of user data. As expected, it includes those of tech giants Meta, Google, Microsoft, ByteDance, Alibaba (AliExpress), Amazon (Amazon store), Apple, Snap Inc., Twitter, Pinterest and other e-commerce platforms such as Zalando, Booking.com. These platforms shall have to report their systematic risks, regarding illegal content, disinformation, freedom of expression, media freedom, online violence, minor protection, risk mitigation plan which will be subject to the Commission’s independent audit and oversight.
